Derives from the ancient Greek η Χάρις (i Haris), της Χάριτος (tis Haritos), which means "grace, elegance, beauty" [source: Babiniotis Dictionaly]. Another possibility is that it derives from the Arabic name of the constellation of Boötes, Al Haris Al Sama, which means "the guard" [source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_Boötis].
